- Alternative transportation for when you can no longer drive
Create a care team and get regular medical care to maintain your overall health:
- Consider a specialist (neurologist, neuropsychiatrist, geriatrician, memory disorders clinic)
- Participate in clinical trials (NC Registry for Brain Health, Clinicaltrials.gov)
Take care of financial, legal, and healthcare planning:
- Visit an elder law attorney
- Choose a Power of Attorney (POA)
- Make a will, get papers in order and share with POA
- Learn about Advance Care Planning
- Prepare advance directives and share with care team
If you live alone:
- Identify someone who will check in with you often and will be your emergency contact and share your information with that person
- Consider working with an occupational therapist on ways to remain independent
- Simplify your life
- Stay connected socially
If you are still working:
- Consider reduced hours or switching to a less demanding position if you are struggling
- Consider consulting your HR department or employee assistance program about family leave, disability and other employee benefits
